Call for Exhibition Proposals for Harlow Gallery - Due October 1, 2015

Submissions are accepted anytime. The Exhibition Committee meets at least twice annually, in April -May and in October-November.  Submit your proposal BEFORE April 1st or October 1st in order to be considered at the respective meeting.

The Harlow Gallery is dedicated to supporting Maine artists by providing exhibition space, arts education and other artist opportunities. Our mission is to connect and celebrate art, artists and community.

Any artist or group may submit a proposal for an exhibition at the Harlow, but Harlow Gallery members are especially encouraged to submit proposals. Proposals are initially ranked by certain criteria and current membership is one of these, followed by being a resident of Maine, or having a strong connection to the state.

Please note that we generally limit solo shows to one per year. Therefore, proposals for group shows are encouraged, or themed shows in which other artists are invited to participate (see recent calls for artists for examples).

All art forms are welcome, and all media, including sculpture, photography and fine crafts.  The current exhibition committee welcomes proposals involving contemporary art, performance art, experimental art, cross-disciplinary art and conceptual art.

We generally exhibit the work of contemporary (living) artists. Giclée prints and other reproductions of original work are not eligible for inclusion in any exhibition at the Harlow Gallery.  Work should be original, completed within five years of the exhibition you are proposing (except in the case of retrospectives), and should not have been recently exhibited elsewhere in central Maine.

Keep in mind that while we are just outside the state capital of Augusta, central Maine is off the beaten path for Maine art galleries and we are a non-profit organization. Please price your work accordingly if at all possible.  Commission rates are 35% for members of the Harlow Gallery, 50% for non-members

Our exhibition space is used for a variety of events such as meetings, figure drawing session, movie nights, fundraisers and more; will share the space with your art. Accommodating this fact must be kept in mind when planning and installing your exhibition.  Gallery diagram with dimensions: http://harlowgallery.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Gallery-diagram-with-dimensions.pdf (note that the office in the front right corner is no longer there and that is now usable space). Ceiling height is 8’7″.
