The Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Augusta School Department, transports over one hundred 7th graders from Cony Middle School on a day-long tour of different Chamber member businesses to expose the students to all the great businesses that are right HERE in the Kennebec Valley!
Our short-term goal is to spark an interest in a future career and to excite each student about what exists for them in our community. Our long-term goal is to develop our region’s workforce and economy of the future.
The 7th UP program was launched in 2018 by the Building Bridges program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Bangor School District to introduce 300 7th grade students to the many career opportunities this region has to offer.
The Kennebec Valley Chamber launched the 7th UP Program in Augusta in 2019, bringing 180 Cony Middle School 7th graders on tours of 12 Augusta area businesses.
In 2020, the program will be held virtually, with video tours of businesses presented to students as well as virtual interviews with representatives from the hosts businesses for a more in-depth look at the opportunities available in our region. Each student that participates in the Biz Tour will also receive a bag of school supplies and goodies donated by area businesses.
