Jefferson is a town in Lincoln County with a small, friendly community. A majority of Jefferson is located on the shores of Damariscotta Lake, offering beautiful scenery and a relaxing atmosphere.
The town is home to Damariscotta Lake State Park, one of Maine’s most popular day use parks. The park features a sandy beach and picnic area. Visitors can also enjoy swimming, canoeing, and fishing on the freshwater lake.
The town dates back to January 13, 1630 when a grant of fifteen miles of land was made to William Bradford, the governor of the Pilgrim Colony. Early economic activities are noted by the abandoned granite quarries and clay banks where bricks were made.
