Here at SSEC, we love to let the children take the lead in their learning, especially with content!

Our students expressed an interest in learning about our solar system. Mrs. Jen pivoted and moved with the students as they explored and learned about our sun in ways that were applicable and interesting to them.

Mrs. Jen found that the students were particularly inspired by a "composite picture of the Sun in ultraviolet light," comprised of "multiple layers of data" from images taken by cameras on the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) on March 30, 2010. This displayed "never-before-seen detail of solar activity."

The children created a collaborative diagram of the sun as seen in ultraviolet light and wrote a personal cinquain poem about the Sun. Look for the earth; they added an image of it to give a size comparison (not to scale, but our young ones are learning about proportion and the vast nature of our universe).
