The city was established as Gardinerston in 1754 and was officially incorporated in 1803 as Gardiner. The city was once a thriving manufacturing center with multiple paper mills, shoe manufacturers, and logging and saw mills as well as the center of the booming ice industry in the 19th and early 20th century.
Gardiner boasts more buildings on the historic register than any other city in the area. Old homes are located in beautiful neighborhoods and reflect the wonderful quality of life that Gardiner has to offer.
Gardiner is centrally located in the heart of Maine and the confluence of I-95 and I-295. The city is in a convenient location as its within hours of Maine’s famous coast and mountain regions, less than an hour’s drive from Portland, and less than a three hour drive from Boston.
