A Historical perspective of The Maine Children’s Home will be presented by Sharon Abrams, Executive Director at this month's Women's Network Luncheon.  The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers first opened its doors on April 10, 1899 in Augusta. It was founded during a time in our history when there were many displaced children living on the streets or in abject poverty. Through the generosity and support of local residents, it became a safe haven for some of these children. The first year's budget was $1,049, enough to feed, clothe and house 28 children.

Beginning her career with the home in 1974 as a Teen Parent School Teacher, Sharon has been Executive Director from 1992 - Present (23 years).

She serves on the Waterville Women's Association, Maine Board of Social Work Licensure, Healthy Northern Kennebec, Health Reach RSVP, Eastern Maine Healthcare System, and the Waterville Rotary Club.

In 2004, she was honored to be inducted into Maine Women's Hall of Fame for my involvement in Teen Parent Education.
