Viles Farmers Market

The Viles Arboretum Farmers Market began in 2011 and has become a vital part of the Arboretum! The market runs year ’round, out front in the summer, and in the community room in the winter. Market vendors offer produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, crafts, jams/jellies, eggs, and more. This Friday afternoon market is a convenient shopping opportunity for people who work in Augusta – pick up fresh, local foods at the end of the work week!

The Arboretum offers a wonderful environment for the market with parking, picnic tables, rest rooms, easy access from Route 9, and a variety of outdoor and indoor conservation exhibits. The six mile trail system offers the opportunity to pack a picnic from the farmers’ market and go for a hike or check out the marsh boardwalk (a popular bird watching location). Relax, meet and talk with the very people who produce the food you are purchasing and support local farmers. Said Mark DesMeules, Executive Director. With eleven vendors and more indicating interest, this market will offer everything from fresh baked bread, organically raised meats, a wide selection of locally grown vegetables, Angus beef, Golden Guernsey milk, yogurt, fresh cheeses, milk-fed pork, veal, poultry a variety of seasonal produce, herbs and flowers, raspberries, blueberries, mixed vegetables, honey, rhubarb, baked goods, homemade soaps, beeswax, maple syrup, honey butter, cut flowers, salad greens, and many other locally grown products depending on the season.
