The Bookey Readers

The Bookey Poetry Reading series invites area poets to come and read their work at the Harlow Gallery on Friday, August 14. Doors open at 6:30pm for poets to ‘sign in’ to read, with sign up
ending promptly at 7pm. All poet’s names will be thrown (literally) into a hat, and readers will wait for their name to be selected. Each reader has a maximum of 5 minutes to read, which means they can read 3 short poems of 16 lines each; 2 medium poems of 25-30 lines each; or 1 long poem of 50-60 lines. When your name is called, you’re on! This will be a fun night that gives poets who might not have an opportunity to read their work, to do so in a great venue and in a good spirit of fun and support. Poetry must be appropriate for an all-age audience.

The Harlow Gallery is located at 160 Water Street in Hallowell. Readings start at 7 pm and refreshments are served. A $3 donation is appreciated at the door. Join us!

During the reading, guests will enjoy “Fired Up” a ceramic art show on view through August 22nd. Art exhibitions at the Harlow Gallery are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday 12-6 pm. The Harlow Gallery, a membership based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to connecting and celebrating art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell since 1963, was recently voted “Best Gallery in Maine” for 2015 by the readers of Down East Magazine.
