On Saturday, August 18th from 10am-2pm the Kennebec Valley Humane Society (KVHS) will be participating in the National Clear the Shelters Event!  KVHS is hosting their own Paws in the Park and Clear the Shelters day at the shelter on Pet Haven Lane in Augusta. Across the country, Clear the Shelters is hosted by NBC and Telemundo and is a community driven nationwide pet adoption campaign that seeks to match shelter pets with loving, permanent new families. Last year, more than 80,000 pets were adopted from over 900 shelters across the country!

To celebrate participation in this event, KVHS will be waiving the adoption fee on all adult animals for the duration of the event. Kittens will have half price adoption fees and puppies will have regular adoption fees. In addition to adoptions, KVHS will have food, music, and a red carpet experience. There will also be $10 microchips available for any dog or cat (they don’t have to be adoptees!).

KVHS Executive Director, Hillary Roberts, said this event has become very meaningful to KVHS. “Our local shelter loves being part of this large scale, nationwide adoption event. It allows us to adopt more shelter pets, connect with our community, and know that we’re part of a day that is literally creating new families all over our country” said Roberts.

KVHS’s Paws in the Park & Clear the Shelter is sponsored by Charlie’s Family of Dealerships, Kennebec Savings Bank, Dead River Company, 24 Pet Watch, Skowhegan Savings Bank, Sprague & Curtis Realtors, Winthrop Veterinary Hospital, and the Augusta Fuel Company.

All of the animals available for adoption at KVHS have been spayed or neutered and are up to date on routine vaccinations. To help advertise the animals available for adoption, KVHS has photos on their website at www.pethavenlane.org as well as on their facebook page.

If people are interested in helping but cannot adopt, they are encouraged to make donation of money or supplies to the shelter or come in to volunteer their time.
