Postcards from Augusta

The Kennebec Historical Society’s August Public Presentation: “Augusta – A New Book from the Postcard History Series by Arcadia Press” Roger A. Madore will be presenting his new book, Augusta
– Postcard History Series, recently published by Arcadia Publishing. The book uses stunning vintage images and postcards to illustrate the history of the Maine city. Highlights of Augusta include postcards from Roger’s personal collection, collected over 27 years and a majority of which have never been published, most of the postcards are over 100 years old and pay tribute to many of the important memorials, monuments and parks of Augusta and several of the images reveal the original design of historical buildings and scenes we are familiar with today. A slideshow will be
presented that showcases postcards from the book’s ten chapters, with topics that include images from downtown, public buildings, churches, homes, industries, transportation, hotels, parks and monuments, street views and scenes from along the waterfront.

Roger A. Madore, 46, was born and raised in Augusta, Maine. He grew up in the French neighbor-hood of Sand Hill and attended Cony High School, graduating in 1986. The following year, he began working for the State of Maine at the Department of Transportation, and is currently employed by the state’s Office of Information Technology as a systems analyst.

The Kennebec Historical Society Public Presentation will take place on Wednesday, August 19,
2015, at 6:30 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 209 Eastern Avenue
in Augusta.
