 The Bookey Poetry Reading series at t​he Harlow Gallery welcomes poets Marcia Brown and Dennis Camire, both ​Maine poets with substantial published work. ​. ​

 Refreshments are served ​, and a ​​$3 donation is appreciated at the door. Well immersed in the Maine poetry scene, Dennis ​ Camire​ is the founder of Maine Poetry Central, an organization key
in the appointment of the Portland Poet Laureate. Marcia ​ Brown​ served as the Portland Poet Laureate ​ of Maine​ from 2013-2015 ​, so both poets have worked together in the past to promote poetry extensively in the Portland area and beyond. Their individual and unique work will both move and delight. Come join us for an evening of spoken word at its best.

Marcia F. Brown is the author of four poetry collections, and served as Poet Laureate for the City of Portland, Maine (2013-2015). She edited the anthology, Port City Poems, Contemporary Poets Celebrate Portland, Maine (Maine Poetry Central 2013), and was a finalist for the 2014 Maine Literary Awards. She holds an MFA from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast Program and has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Three of her poems have been read on NPR’s Writer’s Almanac. Her work is widely published, including Garrison Keillor’s Good Poems, American Places (Penguin Books 2011). Her book of essays and food writing, "​Well Read, Well Fed ~ A Year of Great Reads and Simple Dishes for Book Groups will be published in Fall 2015. She resides in Cape Elizabeth with her husband.

Dennis Camire lives in West Paris and cobbles together a living teaching college writing at White Mountains Community College and Central Maine Community College. His most recent chapbook, "Stone By Stone: Poems About the Art of Dry Stone Walling," was published by Finishing Line Press
in 2010. His poems have appeared in the Mid-American Review, Poetry East, Spoon River Poetry Review, Hamilton Stone Review, and other small magazines and zines. When not working or writing, he gardens, gathers chaga mushrooms, spends time with friends, hikes, and meditates.

During the reading, guests will enjoy "The Harlow Aviary" on view through July 25th. Art exhibitions at the Harlow Gallery are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday 12-6 pm. The Harlow Gallery, a membership based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to connecting and
celebrating art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell since 1963, was recently voted "Best Gallery in Maine" for 2015 by the readers of Down East Magazine.
